Hot Hues: Summer 2023
The fashion world keeps on spinning, from spring into summer, bringing with it a vibrant and beautiful color palette. The latest color trends typically come straight from the runway, but are increasingly influenced by travel, art, entertainment, technology, and current events all creating the vibe of the season. This year's Pantone color of the Year is Viva Magenta, from the start of the year we have witnessed this rich shade featured in everything from clothing to homegoods stores. To add along to this pink agenda, the highly anticipated Barbie movie is set to come out in July, inspiring an increasing use of pastel pinks. Come on, Barbie, let's go party straight into these summer hues! Black, beige, and white will always remain staples of every season, but for now we will put those on hold and lean into what some people are calling dopamine dressing - leaning into the bright vibrant colors to subconsciously lift your mood and/or reflect it! So let's get started!
Pastel Pinks
We must start off here, not only because of Pantone color of the year, but because of how widespread shades of pink have become recently. Pink feels like the start of a blossom, foreshadowing for the delightful season. There are so many shades to choose one, whichever speaks to you! Mixing and matching light shades together has been a big trend this year, or pairing the shade with creams or whites.
Ocean Blue
Though I love the pink trend, if I had to choose a favorite color of summer, it would be the blues. This year it seems we have two ends of the spectrum, a deep rich ocean blue, and a softer light/baby blue. Blues are a fantastic choice for any summer event. The shade calls to mind the peaceful ocean waves, the big blue sky, and a sense of tranquility we all need in our lives.
Candy Red
Another strong vibrate hue to lean into this summer! Reds are confident, bold, sexy. We have heard that time and time again because, well, red is a timeless classic. While red is always on our radars, fiery hues seem to take the cake this season. This shade looks especially amazing with gold jewelry against sun kissed skin, look at you hottie! We can partially thank Rihanna for her 2023 all red Super Bowl look for the rise in the shade's popularity, thank you Ri Ri!
Lilac
Lovely, lovely lilac. A close tie to my favorite color of the season is the continuation of lilac from spring to summer 2023. The soft, dreamy color is ideal for spring/summer fabrics. The shade brings what we are all searching for in the warmer months, an optimism and a bit of escapism. Throw on some lilac for a daydreaming walk in the park or a get-together with friends, you will be sure to feel your mood lifted!
Mellow Yellow(s)
Queen of all thing's optimism, mood boosters, and summer fun, the one color that encompasses it all, yellow! Naturally we of course associate yellow with the summer months, though it can be worn all year round it seems extra fitting to don the hue in its special season. The runways presented us with a rise of mellow yellows, something that is a bit more practical for those of us adding yellow into our closet. The soft, muted hue brings an extra sense of lightness to your outfits - and your mood! However, richer brights are also popular, as everyone needs a little extra hope and cheerfulness to add to our lives
