A Look Ahead: Fall Fashion Trends

We are in the heat of the summer! Boat rides with the besties, late nights with our families in the park, the days seem longer and hotter filled with endless summer possibility. But then we turn to our calendar, August 1st! How could time have gone so quickly! Not to fret too much, certainly there are plenty of summer days ahead of us still. As we roll closer Memorial Day weekend the reality that fall is upon us sets in finally. The bittersweet ending is combated by the excitement of what’s to come. For my planners out there and my fashion enthusiasts, you know what this means. It means getting a jump on the upcoming fall fashion trends before the time comes, taking advantage of all the end of summer sales and early deals. From what we have seen from the runways we have an exciting fall to come that’s focused on elegant style mixed with ideas of sustainability and wardrobe longevity. While there will surely be evolutions in the coming months here is a few fall fashion trends straight from the runways to get you ahead of the game!

Tank Tops

We will start off with a truly transitional trend, the rise of the tank tops. Keep those bad boys in your closet as we transition from summer to fall style as a great layer piece or staple item. The popularity of tank tops speaks to the minimalist trend that is on the rise this season. I think it’s just about finding a top that fits you well and can be worn interchangeable with other closet items. Alternatively the use of tank tops as statement pieces has also been seen on the runway, so whichever style your feeling go for it!

Lots of Leather

Leather continues to be a staple in fall fashion and general outwear but what’s slightly different this year is the level of leather in outfits. Designers this year from Versace, Acne, to Alexander McQueen and more have been going head to toe in the fabric. Select leather pieces such as a jacket or shoes are a typical style choice but using leather all throughout the outfit to make a complete “leather look” has been trending. I personally love the look and think it looks great with some other pops of fabric to balance it out. Regardless of if it’s a dress or full suit moment this look is sure to impress.

Big Fur

This is honestly what I wait all year for - the time when its socially acceptable to step outside in what seems like (and is) a very fashionable coat that also doubles as my personal fuzzy blanket. I know in this heat its hard to imagine any layer on your body none the less a giant coat but pretty soon it will be what we crave. The giant blanket moment is back and any coat that is cozy to you doubles as a on trend fashion win.

Bomber is Back

Sticking with the theme of which coats to invest in (and can you ever have too many coats?) here is another one that you will defiantly want on your wishlist - the bomber jacket. If you remember a few years back the green bomber jacket was all the rage and if you never got rid of it your in luck! The classic green utility style is coming back in trend as well as various takes on the style from more simple to extravagant.

Over the Knee Boots

A fall staple comes at us yet again with the runway emergence of over the knee boots. Though boots fall more into the fall category I find that they can make a great transition piece (especially for those of us in Chicago - who knows what to expect!). Increasingly popular has been leather boots, keeping in line with the overall leather trend for the season.

Season of Tux

A prominent trend amongst designers was various takes on the classic tuxedo. In past years woman’s tux have been typically more tailored with skin showing through. This years however a more traditional, androgynous theme was taken with plenty of layers complete with ties. There are so many great suits to choose from style it which ever way makes you feel most confident, be your most powerful and polished self to any occasion!

Sheer Femininity

The best way to describe this trend is to see it, but imagine lots of sheer fabric, flowing layers, floral accents and soft tones. It touches on hyper femininity and is another great transition from the warmer to cooler months. Don’t be afraid to rock the sheer look with some supportive under layers (or none!).
